Anusara (ah-new-sah-rah), means “flowing with Grace,” “going with the flow,” “following your heart”. It is a powerful hatha yoga system, founded in 1997 by John Friend, that unifies a unique and elegant system of physical alignment with an uplifting philosophy of intrinsic goodness, a “celebration of the heart.”
Kula is Sanskrit for “community,” and a well-organized, dedicated and fun-loving kula is another defining characteristic of Anusara Yoga. Community has always been paramount to Julia, and the Anusara Kula is especially dear to her. Therefore, in service of the Anusara Kula, to help Anusara grow in her new home, the Greater Boston Area, this page is offered as a resource for Anusara information in the region.
To have reminders emailed to you about the workshops listed below, please contact Julia and ask to be put on her email list. The email list is used to announce Anusara events only, and email addresses will not be shared with anyone.
Julia also maintains a list of all the Anusara teachers (Anusara-Inspired and Certified) in the region, and where they teach. Click here to download the list.

Special Event
Friday, Oct. 17, 7-9pm: Kirtan with Shantala, at Samadhi Yoga Studio in Newton.. Though not asana, the practice of kirtan, or devotional chanting, is a sacred practice of yoga. Can be quite a high and quite fun! The husband & wife duo of Benjy & Heather Wertheimer, known as Shantala, are amazing musicians and are well-known and loved by the Anusara community. We are lucky to have them in the Boston area for one night! If you've never heard them before, you should not miss this opportunity to hear them live.
